Escondido School Drops CPM

Orange Glen High School in Escondido has just announced that they plan to drop the CPM program from their math curriculum and re-institute a traditional math sequence. Details about the traditional sequence are not yet available. Also uncertain is whether an AP or honors curriculum sequence using traditional math will be available.

This action follows on the heels of a district math meeting on January 4th in which parents voiced their dissatisfaction with the math program quite clearly. A local group has submitted a Petition to the Escondido Board requesting math choice. There is some speculation that school personnel are trying to act quickly in light of this pending resolution.

Since the math meeting, the principal of Orange Glen has traveled to Burlingame, location of WASC headquarters, and to Sacramento, presumably to discuss math curriculum issues.

School officials called an emergency math meeting on Jan. 17th to tell parents of their latest decision. For more information see the Update on Math in Escondido
